Summer Reading List

I'm a huge reader. I just love curling up with a good book and escaping into someone elses story. The thing about working a full time job and working towards a degree with the Open Uni is that my reading time has been taken up. I've been working towards my degree non stop since 2009 and this summer is my first break from studying in over a year and a half so I intend to do a lot of reading and writing!

So far on my list of books to read after the 6th May:

The Rogue- Trudi Canavan (read)
The Millennium Trilogy- Stieg Larson
The Crimson Petal and the White- Michel Faber (currently reading)
Neverwhere- Neil Gaiman
Legends of Australian Fantasy- Misc
The Penance Room- Carol Coffey
The Prince and the Pilgrim- Mary Stewart (In fact I may just need to reread the Merlin Trilogy and The Wicked Day while I'm at it! One of my all time favourite books)
Adrian Mole the Prostate Years- Sue Townsend
The Spooks Destiny- Joseph Delaney (out in June)
*edit* The Lies of Locke Lamore and Red Seas under red skies by Scott Lynch (thanks Claire)

If you have any book suggestions for me comment and let me know! I intend to read a lot!

A fragile thing is life

You might think its a strange note to start a blog off with. I've toyed with the idea for years of starting one, and lately have had the urge more and more to do so (mainly because of college. Studying creative writing means writing in all formats) Today I had to write my thoughts.
We go about our lives day by day, doing our daily routines, monotonous routines to some; getting up, going to work, going to bed. We might meet up with friends and go for a drink, or sit in and watch a dvd with our significant others.
Yet, there is always one thing around us that most of us have a tendency to forget, or ignore until it gives us a reminder that it is there, hovering close by, that no matter what we do, it is our constant companion. We are constantly on the tightrope balancing ourselves, secretly hoping it does not come to claim us. Many of us fear it above all else.
Today, I had one such reminder, a gentle prod that regardless of our age, death is always close by.
When I was a child, as probably with most children, I played games with the other children on my street. Form time to time I'd see one or two of them. Today, I found out that one, whose back garden backed my parents, was found dead. He was only 27.
A fragile thing is life.
